Tour Itinerary
Overview of the Ha Giang Loop tour 4 days
The Ha Giang Loop tour is a 4-day, 3-night trip from Hanoi through the Dong Van Karst Plateau in Northern Vietnam.
The route covers about 350 km of mountain roads in Ha Giang province, with stops in Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac, and Du Gia.

Four days is the most popular length for this route. It gives enough time to see Ma Pi Leng Pass, the Nho Que River and Lung Cu Flag Tower without feeling rushed.
Day 1 covers about 385 km and ends in Yen Minh, with roughly 9 hours on the road, including stops.
Your driver meets you at your Old Quarter hotel between 7:00 and 7:30 AM.
The highway to Ha Giang city is about 300 km and takes around 5.5 hours, with two rest stops on the way.

Lunch is served in Ha Giang city around 1:00 PM, so you can rest before the mountain section starts.
After lunch, the car heads north to Quan Ba, 45 km away and about 1 hour by road.
First stop: the Heaven Gate viewpoint, where you walk to the Twin Mountains lookout.
Locals call it Fairy Bosom. Entry is free, and a small cafe sells tea and coffee. Allow 30 minutes here.
Bac Sum Pass comes next, a set of tight switchbacks above green terraced slopes.

Your driver pulls over at safe spots for photos. Yen Minh town lies about 40 km further, and a pine forest just outside town makes a good short break.
Hotel check-in at the Yen Minh homestay is around 5:30 PM. Dinner is a shared meal with the host family, with rice, stir-fried vegetables, tofu, pork and local greens.
Rooms hold 2 to 4 people, and blankets and warm showers are provided. Most people go to bed early, as breakfast is at 7:30 AM.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner. Overnight: Yen Minh homestay.
Day 2 covers about 100 km and 6 hours of driving, ending in Dong Van town.
Breakfast at 7:30 AM is eggs, bread and coffee, and the car leaves at 8:30 AM.
Tham Ma Pass opens the day. The road is narrow, cut into the hillside, and one of the best-known sections of the loop.
Sa Phin village is the first main stop, around 10:00 AM. The Vuong Family Palace stands here.

It was built in the 1920s for a Hmong leader who controlled much of the local opium trade.
You spend about 30 minutes in the courtyards and wooden halls, and the entrance fee is already paid.
Lunch is in Lung Cu around 12:00 PM, the northernmost point of Vietnam.
After the meal, you climb more than 800 steps to the Lung Cu Flag Tower.

The platform looks over the Chinese border and the valley below. The climb and the walk down take about 40 minutes, and your driver waits at the base.
On the way back, the car stops in Lung Tam village. Hmong women weave linen from hemp here, and you can watch the work in a small workshop.
Scarves and bags are sold directly by the makers, which is a simple way to support local families.
Dong Van town comes at about 4:00 PM. After check-in, a walk through the Dong Van Old Quarter takes about an hour, with old stone houses and yellow walls along the lanes.

A night market opens near the central square on weekends. Dinner is at a local restaurant, and many people try buckwheat cake or corn wine.
The Sunday morning market, if your dates match, draws Hmong, Dao and Lo Lo families from nearby villages.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight: Dong Van guesthouse.
Day 3 covers about 120 km and 6 hours of driving, with Ma Pi Leng Pass and the Nho Que River as the main stops.
Breakfast is at 7:30 AM, and the car leaves Dong Van at 8:30 AM. Within the first hour, the road enters the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark.

Rocky limestone slopes surround the route, and local farmers grow corn in small patches between the stones.
Ma Pi Leng Pass is the highlight of the loop. About 20 km of road follows a cliff above the Nho Que River canyon, with a drop of around 800 meters.
Your driver stops for 30 minutes at the viewpoint near the Skywalk, which has the widest view of Tu San Canyon. A cafe at the top serves hot drinks and snacks.
A steep road then leads down to the river. The boat trip on the Nho Que River lasts about 45 minutes, between canyon walls that reach over 1,000 meters in some places.

Life jackets are provided. The water looks deep green in the dry months and brown in the rainy season.
Lunch is in Meo Vac town around 12:30 PM. The afternoon drive runs about 70 km south to Du Gia and takes close to 3 hours with short breaks.
The road passes small Tay and Dao villages, with rice fields on the valley floor.
You reach Du Gia around 5:00 PM and can take a short walk to a nearby waterfall before dinner.

The homestay is a Tay-style stilt house. The host family cooks dinner, and everyone eats together at low tables. Rice wine is offered, and some hosts play music after the meal.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight: Du Gia homestay.
Day 4 covers about 100 km of mountain road and 300 km of highway, and you reach Hanoi in the evening.
Breakfast is at 8:00 AM, and the car leaves Du Gia around 9:00 AM. The road follows a quiet valley toward Ha Giang city, about 3 hours away.
Small villages line the route, and a coffee stop near Bac Me is common.
Ha Giang city is reached around 12:00 PM. A final lunch is served at a restaurant near the bus station, and showers are available there for anyone who wants one before the long drive.

The car leaves for Hanoi at about 1:00 PM. The highway takes around 6 hours with one rest stop, and drop-off at your Old Quarter hotel is between 7:00 and 7:30 PM.
A night train or a flight on the same evening is not advised, so book your onward travel for the next morning.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch. End of tour in Hanoi.
