Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City – My Tho – Ben Tre – Can Tho

Trip Overview

Are you looking for an authentic escape from bustling Saigon? Our Mekong Delta tour 2 days 1 night is professionally designed to bring you deep into the heart of Southern Vietnam.

This Mekong Delta 2 day tour covers the three most iconic destinations: My Tho’s ancient pagodas, Ben Tre’s coconut kingdoms, and Can Tho’s vibrant floating markets.

Cai Rang Floating Market is located right at the confluence of three rivers (the Hau River and the Cai Rang River).

Because of its prime location in shallow water, it provides ideal conditions for boats to anchor.

Gradually, more and more boats have come to anchor here, turning it into a bustling floating market

Upon arriving at a local’s house, the group will stop to enjoy a cup of honey tea, then continue walking along the village road. The group will visit a coconut candy factory—a specialty of Ben Tre—and a rice paper factory.

After returning to the larger boat and sailing down the Tien River, you will be taken to Ben Tre province to visit a coconut candy factory, which is a specialty of the area, as well as a rice paper factory in Tan Thach commune.

Then, take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the village roads of Tan Thach commune to admire the fruit orchards and the simple life of the people in this coconut-growing region.

1:00 PM: Have lunch at a restaurant located next to the Tien River, enjoying local specialties from the river region.

2:00 PM: You boards a boat and row down the Tien River to Con Phung – Ben Tre (Coconut Religion Island): visit and learn about the architectural works of the Coconut Religion and the exhibition room displaying some images of famous people and historical sites of Ben Tre province.

At Con Phung (Phoenix Islet) in Ben Tre, traditional handicrafts are deeply rooted in the coconut tree, which provides almost all the necessary raw materials. Here are the primary specialties, their materials, and how they are made:

1. Coconut Candy (Kẹo Dừa)

  • Ingredients: Fresh coconut milk, malt syrup (from glutinous rice), and sugar. Optional flavors like pandan, durian, or peanuts are often added.

  • How it’s made: The mixture is cooked in large woks and stirred constantly until it becomes thick and chewy. It is then poured into molds, cooled, cut into small squares, and wrapped in a thin layer of edible rice paper before the final paper packaging.

2. Coconut Handicrafts (Đồ Thủ Công Mỹ Nghệ)

  • Ingredients: Various parts of the coconut tree, including the wood from old trunks, dried coconut shells, and even the stems of coconut leaves.

  • How it’s made: Skilled artisans carve, sand, and polish the hard coconut wood and shells into functional or decorative items such as teapots, spoons, bowls, jewelry, and statues. The natural grain of the old coconut wood provides a unique, marble-like finish.

3. Coconut Leaf Baskets (Giỏ Đan Từ Lá Dừa)

  • Ingredients: Fresh or dried coconut leaves.

  • How it’s made: The sturdy midribs of the leaves are used as a frame, while the leafy parts are skillfully woven together to create baskets, hats, or decorative gift boxes.

4. Puffed Rice or Coconut Rice Paper (Bánh Tráng Mỹ Lồng / Bánh Phồng)

  • Ingredients: Rice flour, coconut milk, sugar, and sometimes sesame seeds.

  • How it’s made: The batter is spread thinly on a cloth over boiling water to steam (similar to making spring roll wrappers). Once set, the sheets are placed on bamboo mats to dry under the sun until they become crispy or ready for grilling.

This private Mekong Delta tour 2 days option allows for more flexibility in activities: crocodile fishing, recreational fishing, fish feeding with bottles, traditional Vietnamese folk games, etc.

4:30 PM: The boat will take you back to the My Tho pier terminal (same place the driver drop you off in the morning). You will then board the car to Can Tho. On the way, you will have chances

6:30 PM: Arrive in Can Tho, check into your hotel, and rest to prepare for your Cai Rang floating market tour 2 days experience the next morning.

Day 2: Can Tho - Cai Rang Floating Market - Saigon

4:30 AM: Leaving behind those mornings when you sleep in until the sun is high, today our driver and guide will pick you up at 4:30 AM for a floating market adventure.

We start this early because the Cai Rang Floating Market is at its most vibrant between 5:00 AM and 9:00 AM before it winds down for the day. Board the car to Can Tho tourist pier at 5:00 AM.

From there, guests board a boat to visit Cai Rang floating market, the largest floating market in the Mekong Delta.

5:00 AM: Upon boarding, your boat driver will navigate you directly to the central hub of the floating market.

Witness the bustling trading activities on the river and experience the unique river trading tradition through the traditional “Beo” poles.

The “bẹo pole” is a clever form of visual advertising. If the sign is hung too high, it will get caught in the wind; if it’s hung too low, customers won’t see it.

With a pole, however, customers can see what goods are being sold from a distance. While the general principle is “hang what you sell,” the floating market residents have identified three exceptions

Don’t forget to enjoy breakfast right on the boat with a hot bowl of noodle soup ( Pho, Bun Rieu, Hu Tieu Nam Vang: 30.0000-50.000 VND/ bowl) and a rich iced coffee with milk (10.000 -20.000 VND).

Boat rental prices for the floating market usually range from 200,000 to 400,000 VND depending on the type of boat and the number of people.

Here, visitors can learn about the traditional process of making rice noodles.

From grinding the flour, spreading the dough, drying, to cutting the noodles, every step is done manually and meticulously.

You will have the opportunity to directly participate in the process of making delicious, chewy, and pristine white noodles.

Not only that, tourists in Can Tho can also enjoy delicious dishes made from fresh rice noodles, rich in the flavors of the Mekong Delta, especially the unique rice noodle pizza.

All sharing a common color scheme of reddish-brown roof tiles, supported by large wooden columns, and a solid stone foundation.

3:00 PM: You depart for Ho Chi Minh City. This completes the Mekong Delta 2 days 1 night tour itinerary.

After a day of sightseeing that departs quite early, you can rest assured and relax on the car.

The driver will drop you off at the hotel in Saigon center around 6:00 – 7:00 PM.
