Nha Trang Shore Excursion

Overview

The Nha Trang shore excursion is a private full-day city tour for cruise passengers docking at Cam Ranh Port or Cau Da Port.

Your English-speaking tour guide meets you at the cruise port, and a private, air-conditioned vehicle takes you to Nha Trang city’s main sights.

The route covers Po Nagar Cham Towers, Long Son Pagoda, Nha Trang Cathedral and Dam Market.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then have free time at Nha Trang beach.

The tour ends back at the port at least 60 to 90 minutes before the ship leaves.

Nha Trang is a coastal city on the south central coast of Vietnam, in Khanh Hoa province.

Most ships spend only one port day here, so the schedule is built around your arrival and departure times.

The tour guide tracks the ship’s all-aboard time and plans each stop around it.

If your ship arrives late, the stops are shortened instead of skipped without notice.

The city offers a good mix of Cham heritage, Buddhist temples, French-era architecture and local markets within a small area.

Morning: Port Pickup and Road to the City

08:00: Cam Ranh Port or Cau Da Port

The tour guide waits just outside the cruise terminal holding a sign with your name and your cruise ship name.

Both ports have a designated meeting area, and the guide sends the exact location by message before the day of the tour.

After a short welcome and a quick briefing on the day, the group boards the private vehicle.

Passengers arriving at Cau Da Port have the shortest transfer. Cau Da sits about 5 km south of the city centre, so the drive to the first stop takes around 20 minutes.

Ships calling at Cam Ranh Port dock on the Cam Ranh peninsula, roughly 50 km from the city of Nha Trang.

The drive on the coastal road takes about 60 to 70 minutes. The vehicle carries cold water, and the guide uses this time to explain the plan, the local customs and a few useful Vietnamese phrases.

Along the way, the road passes salt fields, small fishing communities and views of the South China Sea.

09:00 to 10:00: Po Nagar Cham Towers

The first stop is Po Nagar Cham Towers, on a small hill north of the Cai River.

Cham people built the complex between the 7th and 13th centuries to honor the goddess Yan Po Nagar, known to the Vietnamese as Thien Y A Na.

Four brick towers remain standing today, and the tallest rises about 23 metres.

Cham worshippers still bring offerings here, so the site works as both a monument and an active place of prayer.

You remove your shoes before entering the towers. The guide explains the Hindu carvings, the meaning of each tower and the history of the Cham kingdom of Kauthara.

A short walk through the lower level leads to a viewing point over the river and the fishing boats below.

Photography is allowed outside, while inside the towers it depends on the day.

Near the site, a small craft area shows how local families make traditional Vietnamese conical hats and weave mats.

The stop takes about 15 minutes, and you can try a hat on or buy one as a gift.

For travelers curious about everyday work in Khanh Hoa, this short stop adds a useful local touch to the visit.

10:30 to 11:30: Long Son Pagoda and the White Buddha

A 10-minute drive brings the group to Long Son Pagoda, the most important Buddhist temple in the city.

Monks founded the pagoda in the 1880s at the foot of Trai Thuy Hill, and it was rebuilt several times after storm damage.

The main hall holds a carved dragon roof and mosaic work made from pieces of glass and ceramic.

Behind the main hall, a staircase of 152 steps climbs the hill to a large seated white Buddha, about 24 metres high.

The climb takes around 10 minutes at an easy pace, and benches along the way offer rest points.

From the top, the view covers the railway line, the Cai River and the rooftops of Nha Trang.

Those who prefer not to climb can wait in the courtyard with cold water, and the guide stays with them.

You wear clothes covering shoulders and knees at all Buddhist temples in Vietnam.

A light scarf or a long shirt in the day bag solves this, and the guide has spare wraps in the vehicle.

11:45 to 12:15: Nha Trang Cathedral

Stone-built Nha Trang Cathedral stands on a small hill in the heart of the city centre.

French architects designed it in Gothic style, and construction finished in the early 1930s.

The tower holds a large bell, and the stained glass windows were made in France.

The site is a working parish church, and the guide asks you to speak quietly inside.

This stop is mostly for photos and a short walk around the grounds. On Sundays, the church holds services, and the guide changes the timing if needed to avoid the crowd.

The cathedral is a short drive from Dam Market, so the group moves on without losing time.

12:15 to 13:00: Dam Market

Dam Market is the city’s main market and one of the oldest in Nha Trang.

The round hall dates from the early 20th century and sells fresh produce, dried seafood, spices, clothing and household goods.

Local families shop here every morning, which makes it a useful place to see daily life in the coastal city.

The guide leads the walk through the main aisles and explains the items on sale.

Dried squid, fish sauce, cashew nuts and rice paper are the most popular local products, and many people buy small packs as gifts.

Prices at the stalls are usually fixed for food, while clothing and souvenirs allow light bargaining.

Vendors accept Vietnamese dong, and some accept cards, so carrying small notes is helpful.

Lunch at a Local Restaurant

Lunch takes place at a restaurant in the city centre, chosen for clean kitchens and quick service.

The set menu includes Vietnamese dishes such as fresh spring rolls, grilled fish or chicken, stir-fried vegetables, steamed rice and seasonal fruit.

Nha Trang is known for its seafood, and vegetarian meals are available when requested in advance.

You with allergies should tell the guide at the start of the day so the kitchen can adjust each dish.

The restaurant is air-conditioned, and the pace is relaxed. Most groups finish within 45 minutes, which leaves buffer time for the afternoon.

14:15 to 15:15: Nha Trang Beach and Free Time

After lunch, the vehicle follows Tran Phu Street along the seafront. This wide road runs beside the main sandy beaches of the city and gives a good view of Nha Trang Bay and the islands offshore.

The guide stops at a public section of Nha Trang beach, where you can walk on the sand, take photos or sit at a cafe by the water.

This is the best moment to relax at Nha Trang beach before heading back.

Cafes along the promenade serve fresh coconut and Vietnamese iced coffee, and public restrooms are close by.

Swimming is possible in the calm bay, though most cruise passengers keep this stop short because of the ship schedule.

Those who want to swim should bring a towel and a change of clothes.

For travelers interested in marine life, the guide can replace the beach time with a visit to the Institute of Oceanography, which houses a small aquarium with local sea species.

The building sits in an old colonial complex at the southern end of the bay.

This option costs a small extra fee, and the guide confirms the opening hours on the day.

Optional Add-On: Thap Ba Hot Spring Mud Bath (At your own expense)

Those who prefer a spa-style stop can ask for the Thap Ba hot spring option in place of the beach.

The mineral mud bath takes about 60 minutes, including showers and costs extra.

This option is best arranged in advance, since it requires more time than a standard stop.

Return to the port

15:30 to 17:00: Depending on ship departure time

The tour guide checks the all-aboard time on your ship card and plans the departure time from the city to match it.

Most cruise lines require passengers on board 30 to 60 minutes before the ship sails.

The guide builds in a safety margin of at least one hour for traffic, which is why this tour is considered reliable for port days.

For Cau Da Port, the drive back takes about 20 minutes. For Cam Ranh Port, the guide leaves the city 90 minutes before the planned drop-off, which covers the 60 to 70 minute drive and any traffic near the airport road.

The driver brings the group right to the terminal gate, and the guide waits until all You pass the entrance.
