Overview

Overview of Private DMZ tour Vietnam

The DMZ tour Vietnam takes you around Quang Tri Province, where the old demilitarized zone once split the country in two.

It is one of the most popular trips for travelers who want to learn about the Vietnam War.

The DMZ ran along the 17th parallel and was set up under the 1954 Geneva Agreement.

During the war, this part of Quang Tri became a major battlefield and one of the most heavily bombed areas in military history.

Hundreds of thousands of tons of explosives, along with napalm, phosphorus and herbicides, turned much of the land into a barren wasteland.

The total amount of explosives used here is often compared to around seven Hiroshima atomic bombs.

Quang Tri still has many historical sites from the Vietnam War, including the old Quang Tri Citadel, Khe Sanh Combat Base, Truong Son National Cemetery, the Ho Chi Minh Trail (known in Vietnam as the Truong Son Trail), Vinh Moc Tunnels, Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River.

If you want to learn more about the Vietnam War, a DMZ tour Vietnam with Vinh Moc Tunnels and Khe Sanh Base is a great choice, and the Hue DMZ tour is one of the easiest ways to do it.

Vietnam Trails Travels offers the DMZ Tour from Hue, you will find out more about the Vietnam War and how the Vietnamese people stood strong through it.

We offer two DMZ Tours from Hue, so you can pick the one that suits your plans best:

07:30 am: Our driver and guide pick you up at your hotel in Hue, then drive north to the DMZ area in Quang Tri.

09:00 am: The first stop is La Vang Holy Land in Quang Tri. Local Catholics believe the Virgin Mary appeared here in 1798, at a time when many people were hiding in the forest to escape religious persecution.

A church was later built near the banyan trees where the sighting is said to have happened and today La Vang is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Catholics in Vietnam.

Along National Route 9, you will pass the Rockpile, a tall limestone hill that US Marines used as a lookout point.

From 1966 to 1968, soldiers stationed on top watched for North Vietnamese troop movements in the DMZ area.

The next stop is Dakrong Bridge, which sits on National Route 9 and marks the start of a road that once formed part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

From here, the trail ran south toward the A Shau Valley and Hamburger Hill, the site of one of the best-known battles of the war.

Near the bridge, there is a monument marking the spot as part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, even though historians do not fully agree on this.

A memorial near the bridge marks the site as part of the Ho Chi Minh Trail, though the historical record is not completely clear.

Next on the route is Khe Sanh Combat Base, once one of the biggest US Marine bases in the area.

The siege that began here in early 1968 became one of the longest and most famous battles of the Vietnam War.

Today, you can walk around the old airstrip and see the aircraft, tanks and bunkers on display.

After visiting Khe Sanh Combat Base, the car heads east to Dong Ha, where you’ll have lunch at a local restaurant.

02:00 pm: The afternoon starts at Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River.

After the 1954 Geneva Accords, this river became the line that divided Vietnam into North and South.

03:00 pm: The last stop is Vinh Moc Tunnels, an underground village that local people dug by hand to escape the bombing during the Vietnam War.
