In the 11th century, King Ly Thai To relocated the capital of Dai Viet to Thang Long, which is now known as Hanoi. This transfer is considered to be the beginning of the Hanoi Old Quarter. 

During that historical period, the Old Quarter was a thriving commercial district that housed a varied assortment of guilds and crafts. Some of the streets, such as Hang Dao, Hang Thiec, and Hang Ca, were given their names over time after the goods that were marketed on those streets.

The Ngoc Son Temple is a modest structure that may be reached by way of a wooden bridge and is situated on an island in the middle of the lake.
